Lindsey Addario has had some extreme adventures shooting in Afghanistan, I thought that some of the experiences she had such as being captured were very intense and really made me question whether or not it was all worth it. Is being a photographer of a meaningful event, giving people that do not have a voice a fair representation, as well as informing people around the world about a crisis really worth it? For her, I can see why it is, despite having fear and maybe a lot of second guesses about letting her work dominate her personal life, but also make her put a comfortable life she had in the United States aside. To me, this is an extremely high level of devotion, it really capsulate what it means to be great at something in my opinion. Some of the lessons I can learn from Addario is how good a job she does by really being discrete, just a fly on the wall that people don't notice as she photographs them. I see that she really gave up years of her life for this, put her social life aside and lived far away from family just to risk her safety and capture these photographs. For me it would be hard to not constantly second guess the decision and contemplate whether it is worth it or not. My favorite photo Addario took she was actually in the photo, taking a picture with a group of women at a presidential rally. To me this was so impressive because she really showed how she integrated herself into a culture that was new to her and carried on a role that was completely foreign to her.
